My Inspiration to Solo Travel

La Plata Peak | Colorado, USA

The Before Part

Picture this: majestic mountains, breathtaking scenery, and the great outdoors. That was my childhood playground in Colorado, USA, where I developed a deep love for nature. Fast forward to college, and I found myself studying in Iowa, far from the mountains I grew up with. But it was during a study abroad program in Tanzania that I had my first taste of long-term international adventure. I lived with a host family, learned Swahili, went on a safari in the Serengeti, and even researched the Maasai communities near Tarangire National Park.

Leopards, lions, and elephants, oh my! The wildlife and landscapes of Tanzania stole my heart and made me realize that the world is full of wonders waiting to be explored.

After graduating from college, I embarked on my first backpacking thru-hike, completing the 485-mile Colorado Trail with a friend. It was a grueling and challenging experience, but one that was equally rewarding. Following that, I spent nine months renovating my mom’s house, learning how to tile showers, build walls, run electricity, and install plumbing.

Next up, I worked on an organic seed farm in Iowa for six months, before moving back to Colorado to volunteer with a non-profit through AmeriCorps for a year. This organization specialized in conservation services for income-qualified homes in the metro area, and it was during this time that my passion for making a positive impact in the world began to take shape.

The Now Part

But after my year of service with AmeriCorps, I felt a burning desire to explore the world again. So, armed with nothing but a one-way ticket to New Zealand, I set off on a four-and-a-half-month solo trip through New Zealand, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. I met incredible people, tried new foods, and saw amazing sights. I even went bungee jumping for the first time!

As I returned to Colorado, I knew that I didn’t want to go back to school or start a traditional career. Instead, I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a career traveler and digital nomad. I want to explore new cultures, meet new people, and share my experiences with others. Life is too short to be tied down to one place or one job, and I want to make the most of every moment.

So, join me on my journey as I travel the world and seek out new adventures. From hidden gems to tourist hotspots, I’ll share my tips and tricks along the way. Who knows, maybe I’ll inspire you to pack your bags and set off on your own adventure!
